Persona 3 Portable is a spin-off of the original Persona 3, featuring a revamped story and a female protagonist option. The game takes place in a modern Japanese city where a mysterious phenomenon known as “The Dark Hour” occurs daily. During this time, reality distorts, and monstrous creatures known as Shadows appear.
The protagonist joins a group of their fellow high school students in a secret organization called the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES). They utilize Personas, manifestations of their inner selves, to combat the Shadows and uncover the truth behind The Dark Hour.
Portable features a unique social link system, allowing players to deepen relationships with other characters, unlocking powerful Persona fusions and gaining valuable support in battle. The game also offers a robust customization system, allowing players to equip their characters with various weapons, armour, and accessories.

Multiple versions of the game now available on modern platforms. The “Reload” version is a modern remake of the original, but lacks the option of playing through the game as the female protagonist. The remake provides many quality of life improvements that make the game play superior, but falls short of being consider the definitive Persona.
